evaluation

when filming my short film we come across a number of problems, firstly due to severe weather condition we were unable to film in the locations planned therefore we decided to base the movie around the college and the housewhich was partly scripted in my storyboard. we also has lighting difficutlies so decided to film da flash back in still image and fasten the pace in which they appear, we decided when filming to use hand held camera alot of the way through as we wanted to amke our short film seem as real as possible and went as far as saying in the magaxine review that it was a low budget film in which hand held shaky camera are used alot and yet these films still g on to be blockbuster hits and overturn thousands and millions. i think we coped extremly well under the circunstances and obstacles we faced which were beyond our control.
when eiditng the film we decided to cut a few parts out and shorten the lengths of shots as we came to relise we had a bit more footage then we needed to, which came as a suprise as i concluded that it would be hard to film five minutes as it was a lot of time, but now i see it is not and have taken this and learnt from it. the soundtrack we used i think suited the film defiently it made the film seem more drmatic and creative the drama feel in which we intended it to. we used transitions such as dissolves to white in order to mould the shots together and create a more ghostly effective on the shots were lily the ghost was.
in prepertation for our film i think i worked hard, i did a lot of anyaltical observations on shorts film and wrote anaylsis about them i also researched into other magaxine reviews and posters, although i do beleive i could have probably deconstructed a view more and more on the same genre type although i dont beleive this did effect my work in any way s i had a lot of background knowledge of what i was doing as i have done similar projects before, i also have a lot of knowledge on target audiences and the codes and conventions of magazine film reviews and film posters which i think really did help me and i am happy with the outcome.
overall i think the project went very well and i found the task as a whole very stimualting even when obstacles appeared we overcame them and carried on to achieve the best we could. if truth be told i think i would of put a bit thought into the lighting and what else we could of done during the filming of the evening when it had fallen dark and i would of maybe had a bit more of a voiceover when looking back at it now. but overall i am satisifed with the work that has been perfromed and enjoyed it enourmously.

soundtrack music

we looked on mobygratis for soundtrack music, we came across three different ones called ana.across and accident. weh have requested the soundtrack for ana and across and they should be with us by tomorrow so we can add them to our film. the song ana we have chosen to use when the ghost is wondering because it adds to the effect very well . both sounds are gentle and mysteruious which is perfect for the ghost bestfriends effect without making the film sound too much like a horror or spooky

my film poster - not my time

this is my film poster for not my time. similar to my film review i have kept to the colours of black, blue and white as they all symbolises the death aspect and life after death, i have used lighter colours such as white and lighter shades of the coloru blue as this is about the spirit of a young nice girl who has raised from the dead. i used picnik to edit my original picture which is a picture of sphia moss the girl who plays lily, i used special effects such as circle splash which give the rays of light on the poster and boost which gives the whole picture the grey/bluey colour it has. i used these effects as they have the connotations of death, and being trapped between life and spirit, and it makes sophia look more ghost and like a little girl lost. i chose the slogan " a true friendship last a lifetime" because it really relates to the plot about two bestfriends and even though one is dead they are still bestfriends it also adds in with the idea that there is life after death. i also chose to use the polaroid effect as in our film the whole thing starts with the picture of the two girls when they were younger fools out and the film consists of backflashes so pictures are the memories whick bonds the two girls even after death. i tried to use writing which was edgy and a bit like child handwriting, i wanted to use edgy writing as the film is about life after death but didnt use to much because it is not a horror and i wanted to use childlike writing to emphasis the whole idea of childhood and bestfriends. i placed the font at the very top and bottom and at the left hand side as i wanted it to be noticable but id dint want to take away the focus of the main oicture especially of sophias face. i put the slogan at the top for thisa reason but also because a slogan is a very important part of a film poster it has to be seen a it has to catch ones eye. by placing it where i did it is very noticable and doenst take anything away from the image. like most film poster i put the actors names producers and directors and any othe riformation at the bottom is a block of writing alltogether. this is because even though this information is important it is nothing something that will appeal to the audience or catcht their eye, obviously the stars in the movie are very imprtant and can genuiuenly make the audience want to see the film depending on who is in so i put the actresses also on the left hand side as well as ina smaller print at the bottom.

not my time - my magzine review

please click on picture to make film review larger >>>>>>>>>>

this is my magazine film review for our short film not my time. i chose to use a large image for the main picture as this is popular convention in magaxine reviews and i used a smaller image from the film as well to give people an idea of the genre of the film. i chose to use two colour blu and black i used these two colours becaue one, they have the conventions of a drama, genre and symbolises greatly in the conceots of death and i also used these two colours as they work really well together and i didnt want to over do it by using different colours and taking the readers eye away from the main point which is obviously the review of the film. like most reviews ui chose to give mine a star rating which was 5. in my description i uncluded the producers, a very short synopsisi of the films plot, a little of detail of the producers of the film and any mistakes were made and a quote from the film director steven spilberg to add even more temptation for the reader to go out and watch the film.

magazine review

this is the magazine film review is for the film avatar, we can see straight away that the a3 spreedsheet mainly consist of images, the main image is the largew image on the page taken from a key point in the film. surrounding it are smalelr images of othere scenes in the film, from the image we get an idea of the genre of the film and ideas of what may be happening in the film. this is good as them the audience get a "teaser" and by doing this it can make a reader really want to go see the film, this is good publicity. the main things that this magazine review include are the images, the name, the star rating, information about the film, the producers, directors, actors and small but detailed plot, which gives an idea of the plot of the film but not enough to give too much away. the colours are orange black white and blue, they have kept the colours basic and in line with the sci fi genre of the film. the font ans size of the writing is kept the same the throughout and the pulblisher as concentraited on making it descripted and symbloic without making it too "fancy".

this is the empire magazine film review for the film i am legend. the main thing to point out id the large image fromt he film which takes up more than half of the page, this picture is from the film but also taken as the film is being filmed, unlike the avatar film review there is only one other small image, but the main image is alot bigger. also unlike the avatoar film review this one is more detailed on the writing side, which is more descriptive and longer than others i have seen. this film review is alot more siplistic on layout and on colours whoch are just the white backgroud, black font and the pink and blue writing which highlight key point in the film review. but like most magazine the codes and conventions are all the same.

this is magazine film review of short film "APPLE" this film review consist of a number of smaller images rather than a lrage main image which is often seen in film magazines for full length films. the colours are simplisitc green, white background and black font, it is also again quite detailed in the writing. unlike a lot of film reviews this one has plenty of uncovered space, we can see rather alot of the white background which is not often seen. they have images similar to the images on the i am legend of the short film actually being filmed and not just still images from the film. it tells you who produced the film and how they went about filming the film and the plot to the film, again they gave it the ratings 9/10 however you usually see it in the five star rating convention.

production logo

we decided to use the name " impulse films" for our production name and this picture is the picture we chose as the production logo, we chose to use a dove as the symbloic image as when a bird opens its wings it flies with impulse ( it flies without thinking).
this was another tester image that we had using the same dove and name just with different colouring and effects we used the name and image for the same reasons, but deicded in using the top image as the logo as we believe its more effective.

target audience profile

We have decided that the target audience for our short film ‘not my time’ will be 12 year olds to 34 years old although people of all ages from 12 upwards would be able to watch it.
Firstly, we decided that the film would be certificated at 12 is because when we checked online to the categories the film had to fit in with the bbfc guidelines which were as followed for a 12/12a film :
Discrimination
Discriminatory language or behaviour must not be endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive discriminatory language or behaviour is unlikely to be acceptable unless clearly condemned. – Our film will not include any discrimination at all through the acting or speaking.
Drugs
Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or give instructional detail. In our short film there is no use of drugs or any preferences to drugs.
Horror
Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained. Although our film is about life/death it is not in a scary sense the girl who comes back is mercy’s best friend, there is nothing that could psychologically harm anyone.
Imitable behaviour
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied, or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised. In our film the girl who dies did commit suicide however this will not be shown and the only reference is when the woman says she committed suicide.
Language
Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’) must be infrequent. There will be no swearing or strong language in our film.
Nudity
Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet. The film will not contain any nudity
Sex
Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for young teenagers. Frequent crude references are unlikely to be acceptable. There is no sexual activity or sexual references; only thing that could come close is the fact that one of the characters is pregnant.
Theme
Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers. The theme is mature but easy to understand and acceptable for teenagers as it includes the plot of two bestfirends.
Violence
Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification. There is no violence in this film at all, the only part were you may think there is is when mercy pulls away from lily but this is not done in an aggressive way just to represent that mercy has came to self realisation.

We decided to fit in between the 12 and 34 categories as research shows that 18-34 bands is the most popular target audience to aim at especially when making horror/drama films. We believe our target audience is good as it fits in with the guidelines its aimed at the most popular band and along with one of the most popular genres that these age ranges wat
